so i have been using my cig lighter to power my nav and soon i will put a splitter into it to power my radar detector at the same time. but i have been wondering if something is wrong with it because it seems to keep pulling power from my battery even after the car is off and the keys are out, my nav will continue to charge itself off of my battery all night long, and i worry that with two appliances i will have myself a dead battery one morning if i dont unplug them. so.. i have a 92 and i was just wondering if something was wrong, or if this is normal for it to continue to pull power after the car is off. just wondering because it doesnt do this on any of my newer vehicles, and if this is normal i was wondering if there is any way to get it to shut off power supply when the car is off, aside from constantly unplugging because that is getting to be a PITA.
thanks for your help. i know stupid small problem, but become more annoying as time goes on

This is normal, my does the same thing it will stay once the car is off. Once recommendation would be it to have the radar hard wired into the car, I have it done it come on and off with the car and then can be mounted up out of the way.

Perfectly normal. If your good with wiring, you can add a relay to an ACC wire so that the cig lighter is only powered when the key is turned in the on position.

chop the power wire to the cig socket, and wire them to the relay 'NO' or normally open contacts. Then run a ground to the metal frame of the dash, use a stake-on "O" connector and a 1/4" self tapping screw. Wire the ground to one side of the relay coil, then find an accessory wire and add a splice to the other side of the relay coil, and your good to go.

The relay will only draw ~.05 amps so it shouldnt affect the circuit you tap into.

Good sources for an ACC wire:

-Clock
