This is causing a problem, because it keeps breaking the bead on the rim. What can I do about this without spending an unholy amount on a set of rims I can't afford right now?

The wife wants me to peel all the plating off and paint the rims....how hard is this?

The intact chrome, nickel and copper have to be electrochemically removed in order for the wheel to be blasted and prepped for painting. You're probably looking at over $200/wheel to do just that.

Best bet is to find a used wheel from another forum member, on SHO Club, or at your local junkyard. Probably no more than $50-$75/ea
