If I drill out the spot welds on my camber plates, I'd like to remove them to clean up the metal underneath. I'd also like to see how much adjustment I have left in the slots.

Can I unbolt and remove the plate without disturbing my current alignment?

If you're vewwwy vewwwy careful.

Carefully mark the location of the plates before you remove them. The weight of the car on the struts makes it difficult for the strut to move when the alignment plate is loose, so have the weight on the wheels when you do this. When doing an alignment I find I have to jack up the corner being adjusted and even then a BFH is used to move the alignment plate.

So if you keep the weight on the front and mark the plate so you can tell whether it does move, you may be able to get away without needing an alignment (I'd say it's probable that you won't need an alignment if you do it this way).
