Too busy...
Well I finally got this 92 running that's been sitting in my driveway for 2 years. Here's the story on it. My buddy bought it back in 02, he drove it for a few months and then parked it for 18 months when he went overseas. Right before he got back I did an upper 60k on it. He drove it for a few months after he got back, then it died on him one day and we couldn't figure out why. He sold the car to me and we towed it to my house, about six miles away, with the car in gear. I didn't know he was in gear until we got it to my house, he said he put it in gear to see if it would start, and even though it didn't he still had power steering and electricity so he just left it in gear. It turns out the original problem was a junk starter, bad battery, and bad battery cables. I got those replaced and cranked it over. It still wouldn't start and it sounded to me like it was out of time. I pulled the timing covers and reset the timing belt and voila, it fired right up.
Which brings me to the new problem. It seems to run just fine, and has good power. The dash lights don't work and the turn signals work when they want to but what has me worried is the engine rattles. It's fine at idle, in fact the rattle doesn't start until 2000 rpms, and it only rattles under a load. When you let off the accelerator, the rattle quits right away but returns as soon as you touch the throttle. I suspect that it's probably the the rod bearings. It's definitely not the timing chains, by the sound of it. You can hear it the loudest through the intake bolts, or the fuel rail bolts. I am curious as to what else it might be though, especially having towed it like that. Any ideas are appreciated, thanks.
