Ok,

I had a shop rebuild my Trans and they did the lubrication mods to my 1993 ATX as well as "Install" the Transgo Kit. The car has ~64,000 60k done and runs very nicely. It pulls hard above 4000k.

I guess I was expecting more from the "Trans Go" and want to make sure I did get what I paid for.

My questions.

What all is included in the Transgo?

Is there a way to test the vehicle to see if the kit is installed?

I have read discprencies as to whether the shifts should be firm or not. Should they be firm or smooth on normal acceleration, and a little firmer under hard acceleration?

Would some Transgo Paperwork come with the kit?

I have done multiple searches on the subject but had those additional questions.

To be very honest with you, here is what I feel with the trans-go kit. For the earlier transmissions ( AX4S ) which is what you have, I do not even use trans-go. I use the superior shift kit. But that kit is not avaliable for the AX4N so we trans-go that transmission. As for what to feel with a trans-go unit. I describe it like the following... ( Keep in mind, this is for the AX4N ) You will feel an increase in shift feel. The car seems to lose some of its softness on the shifts. You will feel shifts, but they will not be too firm. Sometimes you will get a firmer 1-2, it depends on how the rebuilder puts it together. They all have their own things that they do to different transmissions. On the older units ( like yours ) the primary benifit is the boost valve which is an update in the valve body that helps with shift control. You should also have been updated to a steel forward piston and steel direct piston. Both are premature failure points, and will start with soft sloppy shifts. My rebuilders also modify the planetary gears for better ****. I belive they help the size of the **** holes out.

If you were looking for a hard shifting transmission, then the trans-go was not the kit to use. I had my old 93 built with intentions of a neck breaker. And my builder did just that. She would break the tires on a 1-2 and a 2-3 which is the only one I have seen that could do that. However, it would get a little uncomfortable in stop and go traffic. The 1-2 was kinda firm no matter what. He did that with a modified superior kit.

I do not know if this ramble helped out or not. I hope that it did. And a trick that I learned a few years ago if that for a firmer shift, I used type F. I had it in the 93 via way of trick shift fluid. Worked fine, still works fine as best I know. Plus everyone gives you the confused look when you show them green transmission fluid. I am sure someone will flame me for using type F. But, what do ya do.

Yes the pistons were replaced with steel as the forward is the one that went and the pump was starting to go.

Thats somewhat what I was told by the builder (same things you are saying SHO#7) who came highly recomended by a few people. They delivered on time, and at a lower than quoted price. But I do like to hear peoples opinions. I realize this is a Taurus and as much as people are going to disagree its truely not a "Sports" car. I did want a little more MMPH out of it and I havent had much time to really test it.

Any other opinions?
