I am looking to change the tranny fluid in my 98, can I just drop that pan with all those small bolts in it to do this? Is there a filter under there to replace also? I know this won't get all of the fluid out like flushing it would, but I think this should be good enough?? Any thoughts....

What you described is exactly what I did on my 97 last year. Dropped all of the little bolts and the pan, and replaced the filter which is easily visible when the pan is off, no biggie. I also cleaned out the pan really good while I had it off. If I remember correctly the gasket is reusable also. I used the Valvoline Max Life, high mileage transmission fluid also. Not very difficult, just annoying with all of the bolts.
