Being that your from up north then your car probably has rust. If its got rust then there goes your fun right there. I just did my complete transformation and it took my 12 hours solo with nothing but hand tools. I did it as primitive as it gets and i got very frustrated at times but it wasnt too bad. Im in texas though and my car is a texas car so i cant vouch for the rust issue. If you know what your doing its not bad. For me it took a long time to do the drivers side and once i developed a technique it was a joke on the passenger side. Just take your time and dont rush anything. If you have access to a buddy to help you, torches to heat stuff, prybars, and most importantly air tools then the job will be easy as pie. I will be posting before and after pictures of mine in the next day or so once i get it cleaned up again, but it took me about 12 hours which for a beginner with no power tools or help of anykind thats not too bad.

If ther only choices are "fun" or "****"....
Then Id have to go with "****". Especially if you are in a rust-prone area.

A full-on suspension project is no walk in the park. Not really all that difficult, but is very time consuming, tedious, as well as very dangerous if you have never had the "pleasure" of tackling such a job before.

Having said that:
I have no reason to believe anyone on this forum is incapable of performing such a task.

Also, Autozone.com has excellent "repair-guides" for the suspension of the Taurus.

I will go with ****.

I am from Mich also. Rust wasnt too bad. I am a certified mechanic and it took me 7 hours to do 4 Springs, Struts, Mounts, 2 swaybars and all the links. Just to give you an idea.

I get my rear suspention done tomorrow. I've been dicussing with my mechanic, he did the front and it took him 4 hrs. struts, springs, right and left ball joints, outer tie rod ends and sway bar links. OH almost forgot he aligned just the front end also. He says tomorrow it might be 4 hrs as well. He's got the rear - struts springs h-brace and subframe connectors. Here's a question for you motor heads, the rear struts and springs take the back seat out or not. I told him I thought he took it out last time at 100,000 miles. It's now 236,000 and putting in eibach and tokico not stock like before.
WHat do you think, is it easier with the back seat out??

any job is as easy or as difficult as one would like to make it. just take your time, think things through and prepare for the worse. dont let a minor setback (like a broken bolt or seized stud) fog your perception. handle it as it comes.

though i dont have a vehicle from the Rust Belt, i have become fond of PB Blasters qualities. it recently replaced my fave lubricating penetrant, Misty brand.

i did it from the trunk too. I even left my subwoofer box in the trunk. But im 5 foot9 and 145 pounds soaking wet so i could fit into the thing. Accessing the rear bolts isnt too bad on the gen2 if you pull the insulation that covers the seatbelt box away first. You will see what im talking about when you get in there. Once this is out of the way then getting to the bolts is simple. A ratchet wrench will save you alot of time on this if you have it, plus it works well on the endlink bolts too. I also used ALOT of penetrating oil, for me i used liquid wrench and everything came apart like butter. I didnt break any bolts or anything but i did break 2 sockets and an extension. All of which was craftsmen believe it or not. I started my install when it was about 30 degrees out so im assuming the cold tools didnt like being torqued. Oh and when your in the trunk keep the remote keyless entry with you, my dad thought it would be cute to close the trunk while i was in it..... he opened it right up of course but others might not be so kind

When I did my fronts, the left side took about 4 hours, and I destroyed my halfshaft. I also had a fully equipped shop, airtools, all sorts of tools, and a lift, and a strong helper lol (my dad). The right side took about... oh, 20 minutes. Halfshaft was fine. Learnt the valuable lesson that you CAN'T LET THE HALFSHAFT HANG DOWN WHEN THE KNUCKLE IS OFF THE STRUT! *especially* if you disconnect the tie-rod and LCA first :). back is gonna be fun... strangely enough, I live in VA, and I didn't need crap in the way of breaker bars or pb blaster to get the pinch bolts or anything off. It all came right off... must've been done soon before I got it a year ago.

I just came from the garage myself, the front is off... just waiting for parts now. I was impressed with that pinch bolt thought. its pretty unreal how much torque that needs. I broke an extention, a socket, and a breakerbar. sears was happy to replace all of it. I am a little upset over the breaker bar though.
I will put the new stuff on and replace the back... too much working, not enough playing.
I am going with the tokico/intrax setup... I will be continuing to check this thread for comments and feedback.
