What exactly does it take to get them out? Do I remove the whole plastic thing it sits in? or does the bulb come out on its own? Just some quick help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Well I don't really know on the gen 1s, but on the gen 2s, all you have to do is peel back the plastic clip and back out the bulb housing being careful not to touch the new bulb to create a hot spot. Then just pull the bulb out and replace it with a new one. Don't get suckered by a dealership that will try and sell you an entire new wiring harness. I got sucked into that and spent over 30 bucks for a fix that could have been done for about 3. Just look up the bulb requirement in either a chiltons or other reference manual. Good luck. The gen 2s use a H3, but I am not sure about a gen 1. thumbs_u

About two minutes after I posted I figured it out, and I was definitely careful about touching the bulb thumbs_u I pulled just the bulb, not the housing, and put the new one in the same way. Mine requires a H3 as well. In the process I discovered my fog lights have different clear lenses on them! Previous owner must've been up to something! Thanks for your help Jeremy!

You probably want to remove the whole housing and check for cracks directly on top and bottom of the housing. When water gets in through the crack it'll burst your new bulb.

I slathered on some two part epoxy. You could probably put on some fiberglass if you really wanted to get fancy. There should be 1 or 2 small bolts that hole each housing on.

One of my fog lights had a crack on the upper part and at the car wash water got in and..POW the bulb blew.

The gen 2 you can just unscrew the two hex bolt under the light,(if you can reach them with your driver) and disconnect the harness. Cleaned it out with air, let it dry, and applied Black RTV over the crack. Worked like a charm and my fog light is actually clearer now that the inside of the lens is clean. I even took off the other one and cleaned the inside of it too.
