Today I changed the plugs on the 2016 SHO. It was actually easier than I had read about, most hoses were air hoses that you could either disconnect or easily move out of the way to get to the plugs. The hardest one to get to was the back right one (looking at the car from the front). The car has 60k miles on it but never had the plugs changed yet, and they realistically didn't look in bad condition when I took them out, however I figured it was better to do preventative maintenance than not. The car definitely does idle smoother now, although it wasn't terrible before.

The plugs that the manual recommended are the SP-534. However when I went to buy them I was told that the SP-580 were the newer plugs and the 534's were outdated. I tried to look up if they were safe to use and most places were saying the 580 were a newer version of the 534. I put the 580's in but if anyone knows anything about this change and if I should be concerned about getting the 534's instead please let me know.

SP 542 are the ones you want. They are getting harder to find though. If you identify a source, get yourself enough for a few changes as they will likely not be around easily in the future.

Aren’t the sp542 plugs recommended for vehicles with a tune?

Those are the correct replacement plugs, they don't make the 534 or 542's anymore. If you do get a tune, the ford GT plug replaced the 542's.

Are SP-471 the GT plugs?
That part number is M-12405-35T, but not sure what the SP number is...I thought it was still basically a 542 with a nomenclature change. From what I read, Ford got away from the 542 (which I heard came OEM in the 2.7L Edge, but can't confirm) and went back to a heat range 6 plug for some emissions related issue. They then moved the 542 to their performance lineup, and this is where I suspect the nomenclature change happened

did my plugs a couple weeks ago 108 K miles on orig plugs- gaps were about .048 on all put in 580's - surprised how easy the job was . couple hoses in the way but take your time it can be done - little bit of anti seize on new plug. were pre gapped at .032 - not into "Tuning" just a stock running 2010 . did challenge a '15 mustang gt yesterday - had him concerned for a bit then he left me behind ! we both waved as he turned off . -
