in the process of putting the oil filter on, some sort of gasket fell from where the oil filter attach's? Not sure if this was from an old oil filter or something else, so I didn't bother with it. I am now wondering if this gasket is supposed to go between the oil filter and where the filter attach's?

Check the old filter and see if the rubber gasket is missing.

....and your lucky it fell off because if it stayed on and you didn't notice your motor would have pumped all its oil out real quick.

That was the old gasket from the oil filter you removed. There is no other gasket for the oil filter mounting.

It was probably the gasket off of the old filter. Although i'm not 100% positive because I haven't had the chance to go back to the in-laws and dig through the trash to find out. Did look under the car today and haven't seen a drop of oil, so all is good.

Yeah, that was the old oil filter gasket. Good thing you caught that before you installed a new filter with two gaskets and lost all your oil and possibly blew your engine up!

Did you oil the gasket on the new filter before installing it?
