Chain Tensioner Bolts

Well.. I'm in an interested position. The last week, I started hearing a rattle in my rear valve cover.

Took it off tonight and low and behold.. there are no bolts holding on the chain tensioner.. and all I can say is .. WTF.

Not sure how they both came loose.. but they did. I don't see them in the cover.. which is good and bad.. so I assume the two bolts dropped to the oil pan.. I assume anyways.

So.. the question is.. how do I get them out? There are 2 bolts that are unreachable to drop the oil pan because of the subframe.

What would you guys suggest? Also, what size are the chain tensioner bolts?

You can drop the oil pan without dropping the subframe.

tho its not the funnest job but yes!

what bolts did you lose???? could you snap a pic?? if its 1 of the head tensioner make sure you check the oil drain holes in the head.

I'd put 2 bolts back in it and drive it..

I actually found one of the bolts! But.. I think the other one is lost to the oil pan..

It wouldn't hurt anything to just let the bolt stay down there would it?

Nope. It sure wont go through the pickup tube.

I ran a race engine most of a season with a push rod in the oil pan w/o a problem, BUT you could see where it had bounced around the pan and crankshaft!
Long shot, but running a strong magnet around the outside/bottom of the oil pan and draging it toward the drain plug hole to get it out ....may help?
