My 89 shift linkage broke while on trip to K.C. Small black plastic grommet at left bottom of shifter stick. Ford dealer there put a glob of solder to hold things together so I could drive it home. Local Ford dealer can't find parts. Maybe this is the time to install a rod shifter? Any tips on where to go in St. Louis or Columbia?

I had the same problem. What I did was took it all out then drilled the ball out on the shifter, then put a nut, bolt and a metal sleeve over the bolt so there was less play in it.
I think it works better than factory. It only took about an hour.

I did this to mine, also did the same thing on the transmission connection side. The shifter feels better than any of the rodshifter cars I've driven. :thumb:
