I needed to get a different comp to run the LPM, so I was able to get the one out of my old 89. When I install it and get it mounted in there, the CE light comes on almost immediatly. I cannot get my code tester to work properly, and was just wondering if anyone knows what might be wrong? I thought it was just plug in and go when swapin comps...? I put an 89 comp into a 90, so they are both MTX computers, so that is not the problem...any thoughts?

did you actually run the codes to see what it was? slim chance but maybe its an old code still in the memory of your old ECM. run the codes, let us know what it is then wipe the memory and see if it happens again. talk to you soon.

Steve, youre 100% correct, but im wondering if theres a possibility that if his old 89 still had a battery on it if the change was made quick enough there could still be a code hanging around. i know its a real long shot but ive seen things like that happen. i mean after all when youre clearing the computer there is a procedure to make sure its wiped entirely. but Dr. Evil, you still should run the codes and tell us what you get!

What's the computer code of the one you put in?

If by chance it's a CA (EGR) PCM, and you don't have EGR, it'll trip a CE light.

I think you nailed it. thumb If by EGR you mean that thing that is on the back, drivers side of the intake...Because the 89 had it, and the 90 does not. Is there any way to get it to go off...? I will run the codes and see if that comes up, and make sure that is the only thing wrong before I run it.

Nice job Mark. Get another MTX car computer that's non EGR. There's no reasonable way to override the PCM's search for the EGR sensor input.
There are more non EGR than not so it shouldn't be difficult. It's too bad you purchased something that isn't designed to work properly in your application. headbang

Do you think I would be hurting anything if I ran it with the 89 Comp until I find another?

shrug I'm not sure how it would change the operating calibration. I guess there is some default setting but I don't know what the real effects would be.

If you're looking for one, I know Russ is parting out a bunch of SHOs [email protected] I have purchased several things from him before and he is a reputable seller. Just a tip. Not sure of any price.

Nope, no problem running a CA PCM. It just can't find the EGR valve so it trips a CE light, but no harm done.

Now the LPM is not working...the fan comes on when I plug it and turn the key on, which is not supposed to happen. I tried it both ways, and both turn the fan on. shrug
