My 97 SHO came without a CD changer cartridge. I can't afford an aftermarket one so I figure a CD changer that skips is better than listening to the radio all the time. My question is... can I get ANY cartridge or does it have to be a certain part number? IIRC, the part # for my changer is F6DF-18C849-AF. The cartridge I bought from eBay was supposed to be for a late 90's Ford but it wont go in my changer. The part # on the cartridge is F8VF-18C833-AE. Are those two compatible? What part # should I get?

I have the same number you have for your new cartridge ( F8VF) but I had to change out the CD player it's self Cuz the other one didn't work. I think the one I have now that goes with the F8VF cartridge came from a Lincoln. I'm not sure. I think I may have a old cartridge from the old CD changer around somewhere if I can find it and it has the same numbers and your original I'll send it to you. Let me do some digging.

The magazine (or cartridge) part number for the CD changer in your 97 is:
F6DF-18C833-AB. I bought one on ebay for $20.
