I honestly have no idea what happens when you try to start the car. I bought it from someone private party for $800 dollars, and he said it needed only a clutch cable, throw-out bearing, and a battery to run. Figuring I'd just have the whole clutch replaced, I had a garage tow the car to their shop and work on it. Its been five days and "Your car won't start", is the only thing I've been able to get out of them. The person I talked to wasn't able to tell me what had been done to try to get it to start, or what was happening when you turned the key(whether the starter was engaging, if it was cranking, stuff like that). The garage(which was near where I bought the car) is about 30 miles from my house so I havn't gotten around to going to the shop to talk to them in person again since I arranged the pickup. I have been being patient with them so far because I realize that they could just be busy but, if when I call tommorrow to see what is going on, all he will tell me is "Your car won't start" my patience and understanding will quickly run out. I don't mind waiting till they get to it if they are busy, I just don't want them to give me the run around just because they bit off more work than they could chew. If that is the case I'll tow the car home and trouble shoot it myself, the only reason I took it to a garage is because I've never done a clutch before and I didn't want this one to be my first.
To make a long short, I have no idea what is happening to try and diagnose the problem, I was just wondering if either of those items( the clutch cable or the throw-out bearing) could stop the car from starting. I realize its sort of a vague theoretical question and a definite answer isn't possible, I was just wondering if it would be within the realm of possibility, thanks anyway for your help though, I appreciate any advice that is offered.
