so i got my alternator replaced two n a half months ago and last night it decided to shit the bed again.
i was wondering could there be something wrong with wiring in my car or could it just be the alternator?

i'm not sure who it was on here but somebody had this problem with their car just destroying alternators. if you read this could you please tell me what the problem was with yours if you ever figured it out.

thanx alot!

1-Yea shos are ******* alternators , seen your story many times.

2-If its pulling a batt light , look for connections on it first , they tend to mess with you sometimes.

It took 4 alternators before I found a "rebuilt" one that would actually last more than a week or 2. Now a year and a half later this one is crapping out.

It seems to me, you are better off getting yours rebuilt by a local shop, than useing a parts chain reman.

I permanantely fixed my alt problem, alignement problem and inherent weak differential all at the same time.

I sold it.

seriouslythough , its nothing that you can control, rebuild or reman, either way. they go when they want and thats that.

well i brought it in yesterday to get it rebuilt again, so we'll see how it goes. i guess they didnt put that little red rubber part on the bolt so it was arching.
hopefully this one lasts longer than the last one.

haha. well i dont think i'll sell it anytime soon. the problems arent that big of a deal yet

I had my origional alternator go out an replaced it with a NAPA 1 year Alternator. This one lasted 1 week. I swaped it out with another one from NAPA this one lasted 1 day. I got a third and also went to 3 diffrent shops to have electrical system checked out cuz I couldnt find anything myself. This third one went out after 3 days. At this point NAPA didnt have any more alternators so I stepped up and bought the NAPA Liftime warrenty alternator. This one has been working for 3 years just fine. The moral of the story is that the 1 year alternators were junk but the lifetime are actually worth the money.

Alternator

mikeylikesit,

After 155,000 miles on the original alternator in my 95 SHO, it finally gave me problems. I bought the remanufactured alternator from Advance Auto with a lifetime replacement warranty and I've had it for about a year now. So far so good at this time. Good luck and I hope you resolve your alternator headaches.
