car dies

well i just got finished doing a timing belt on my car. then when i tryed to drive it i put it in drive drove forward. then put it in reverse and went backwards then when i put it back in drive it died and wouldnt start back up. i could also smell gas coing out the exhaust when trying to start is. does anyone know what the problem might be?

I would suspect there is a problem with the timing belt installation.

ya i was wondering if the oil couldve caused the timing belt to break really fast or to slip off or something?
