Can you scan an OBD1 computer for a trans. code?

My 94 SHO just started flashing the OD light, it seems to shift normal and I just recently changed the transmission filter and gasket then had a complete flush done. Just wondering if there is a way to pull a code for the trans. on an OBD 1 vehicle. Also the speed odometer just stopped working within the past few days.

ABS Data Link Connctor (C170) viewed from pin face:

L = Warning lamp to dash

G = Ground

T = Trigger

To pull codes, use a paperclip to jumper the ground and trigger pins together.
Turn ignition key to RUN without starting engine.
Count ABS light flashes to get two-digit code. Each code takes about 15 seconds if there are mulitple codes.

Uh, those are ABS codes and have nothing to do with the transmission.

There is no special procedure for pulling stored transmission fault codes. They are treated the same as engine management DTCs and are pulled the same way and at the same time as pulling any other engine fault codes.

There is a transmission drive cycle test that exercises the ATX's control functions in a specific order and manner. See this post for instructions: http://www.shoforum.com/showpost.php?p=943857&postcount=7

Since your speedo stopped working, I suspect you'll get VSS-related fault codes.

Yup. The EEC in the ATX-equipped cars manages the transmission as well as the engine. When things go awry with the tranny, the engine computer (ECU, EEC, PCM, whatever you want to call it) will be the one with the appropriate codes.

My CEL is pretty much permanently on because of the tranny swap. When I pull codes there are always about a half-dozen related to the fact that the ECU can't figure out where the transmission went.

I'd bet a failed VSS (speedo) will hose up the shifting management a bit.

If the VSS failed would my cruise still work? I thought I read on here in another post that the cruise will not work if the VSS failed. I just tried my cruise and it works fine.

There are two separate outputs from the VSS sensor...

Pull the frickin' codes and quite chattering about it already.

I went out this morning and no flashing OD light and I went to my garage and scanned it and no codes. That's why I asked about the cruise because I checked it today and it worked fine but I still have no speed odemeter. Also I drove the car all day too, maybe about 150 miles with no issues.

You know your car has a speedo cable, correct? The VSS has nothing to do with speedo readings. It is very possible for the VSS to be good, and the cable to be broken/not attached.

The cable looks to be connect, it's just weird that it stopped all of a sudden and then 2 days later I got a flashing OD light. I am starting to doubt that both issues are related though.

Are you certain you're scanning codes at the EEC connector and not the ABS connector?
