I'm doing my valve shim adjustments today and was wondering if I can flip over and reuse the shims. The shims in are the original ones that have been in the car for 132K miles. They have the numbers on the bottom yet.
Thanks for any input.

Yes, as long as the clearance is in spec when the shim is flipped, otherwise you will need to go with a bigger shim.

Why do you need to flip the shim(s)? Is the shim severly worn or scratched? If you can't catch a fingernail on the shim, it's a-ok to reuse.

I think he's talking about if the shim is so worn out that it is not the same size it was, thus needing a new wear surface.

I dont want really a step by step write up, but before putting your covers back on, if you can just snap a picture of the shims and that stuff... I can figure out the rest, but in french I dont know the translation for valve shims (mechanic term) so nobody can really help me (they also know nothing about DOHC engines)
