can this rim possibly be able to fit a GEN 1 SHO

need to get someone who has lots of experience of offset and wheel type to see if a certain wheel type not designed for my car would work with a little bit of massaging. I know you can re drill your hub and or get a new bolt pattern to fit different rims

I believe the GEN I has a bolt pattern of 5x108 and a center bore of 63.4 16x6 OEM rim with a positive offset of 35

rims in question are a bolt pattern of 5x120, 17x8 rims also with a positive offset of 35

5 x 108mm 17inch, 7inch wide rim, 40mm offset. With 225/50r17.

That combo is the max with gen 1 stock ride height. I went 1 step farther and had some decent rub on rear and tiny turning rub on front. Dropped 1 step down to the sizing listed above and its perfect.

Did it all the a tire/rim specialist company near me. L&M Tire in Abbottstown PA. They couldnt find another size in between the 2 without rub.

35 offset doesn't sound right! My spare wheels that I've had on two 89s are 17x7.5 with a 45 offset. 215/50/17 tires easily clear the uncut rear fender openings. With the 45 offset, it looks like 17x8 with 225s would easily fit without cutting.

I don't believe that a 35 offset could clear in the rear.

Clearing the rear is always the catch. Try hitting up Chad (Irish Pride). He has/had a bunch of GenI's recently with an assortment of wheels.

Just found out that the center bore is 72.56, Which means it’s larger than the OEM center bore for the Gen one Taurus
I believe I can get a centric ring or centering ring around the hUb made by a machine company made out of aluminum to fill the difference between what is OEM with Ford on this model versus what the actual center board is on these particular rims

The next question is I would have to get a adapter to conform to the 5 x 1 20 lug pattern

and wouldn’t that change the offset of the rim I’m trying to get to match what I currently own on my GEN one sho?

Frankly, I've never worried much about the bore. Both TR & DT have sent adaptor rings, which seem to get lost one at a time (!!), and I then just make the wheel lug centric, with careful torquing of the lugs.

Anyway, I don't see the 35 offset working, especially with an 8" width.

And adding an adaptor on top of that will make the effective offset 30-25, or more.

If only one spec was off (offset or lug pattern), you could probably make it work. Having to allow for both of those specs being wrong doesn't sound workable to me.

The 17x7.5 Elbrus wheels are FS! Here on my former white 89. These are a 45 offset.

You know anyone that sells wheels locally? Get a test fit for clearance at the rear. I had to roll the rear fenders for the old 17" TSW Revo wheels I put on my '90. I really liked those wheels and I would probably not do that today.

An 8" wide wheel with +35 offset will require you to roll the rear fenders and even then it still might not fit. You are going to need a +45 to make it an easy fit.

I personally wouldn't mess with trying to redrill the hubs. You are handcuffing yourself to that particular set of wheels if you do. If you are dead set on those wheels then I would look into getting the wheels redrilled to 5x108.

Yep. That's not a common wheel lug pattern, there's a lot more in 5x108.

Any hub adapter has to clear your existing lugs. From my experiences with various cars/SUV's they likely need to be at least an inch thick or most likely 1 1/2 inch. That means that any wheel you were mounting would stick out that much further. 120 MM bolt pattern is from a BMW and some late model GM full size vehicles.

I've been looking into options for my '91. There are a couple of yards not far away that sell used, guaranteed OEM rims for very reasonable prices.
Fusion 17x7.5" and 18x8" rims are 55mm offset. I think that's too far in.
Focus 17x7" are 50m offset. Probably fit.
C-Max 17x7" are 50 offset. I'm going to try the ones from my 2017 before I switch from snows to see how they fit.
Some Volvos from the late 1990's have 17x7" 40 to 50 offset.

Basically, tire options for 16" rims are evaporating at a rapid pace. Hankook Ventus R-S4 (225-50-16's) might be my only option if I want to get off the G-Force Sports (Second gen) that are now six years old - and these might be as stiff as the first gen BFG KDW's I ran at Lime-Rock in 2004 though without the wet track capability of the KDW.
