I am on a role and fixed the turn signal multifuntion switch. Thats right fixed, not replaced. :D Yeah, I am proud of myself. Anyways I heard the vac thingy leaking that releases the p-brake on an ATX and I was wondering if it is possible to take it apart and fix it? An O-ring maybe? Or should I just buy one and throw the old on away? I don't want to take it out yet because thats on my Mother's car. She don't like it when I leave her car taken apart, I can't figure out why... shrug

burnout <- Just cause its cool...

oh sho,

You think like I do, fix it rather than just change parts. However, this is not always possible, nor is it very practical many times.

Your mother's vacuum motor is a sealed unit that is pressed together. If you do get it apart you will most likely find a vacuum diaphram that has cracks around the outer edges or around the center. I seriously doubt you will be able to get replacement parts.

As a practical matter, the time you will have devoted to repairing the unit will be hard to justify, compared to the cost of a replacement.

So, if the unit has failed, replace it and be done with it. I doubt that your mother would appreciate you having her car apart for several days, or a week, while you try to fix a relatively inexpensive item. :(

Trust me, she will be very happy with you if you replace it so it works, and have it done the same day! :D

It is unfortunate, but many things that used to be rebuildable, are now "throw away" items. rangerj

Thanks rangerj, that is what I was thinking after I pulled the console up to make sure it wasn't just the vac lines. Looks like I am going to junkyards this week. I love junkyards.
