Is there any way to change the waterpump by removing the top two t-belt covers only?

I am trying to avoid having to remove the crank pulley and t-belts.

Thanks.

Yes, however....

If you are replacing the outer half of the pump only it is doable.

If you are replacing the WHOLE water pump, maybe.

Here's the big however: When you open or remove the pump, significant amounts of coolant will drain onto your timing belt, crank sensor, etc. I would avoid this, since the effects of this coolant bath on these parts probably isn't good in the long run.

Perhaps an outer half swap followed by a fresh water flush with the garden hose, then allowed to dry wouldn't be the end of the world, but you're still taking risks witht he life of the belt etc.

Back in Michigan ... again.
Don't you have to remove the lower cover on an MTX before you can remove the middle cover?

I could see this working on an ATX...but in reality you're looking at perhaps an extra 1/2 hour of work to remove the rest of the parts. I'd just do it by the book.
