crawl under the car and look up. should be on the front of the block right under the oil filter. I believe its 3 bolts and a couple connections. pretty straight forward.

You'll need 13mm and 15mm sockets, possibly an 8mm socket depending on how the small wire to the solenoid is attached (usually it is a single-wire slip-on connector).

The lowest bolt on the transmission housing is 13mm if I remember correctly. The top bolt, is a studded 13mm hex head, with a 15mm nut on top to retain the large ground wire. The 15mm nut sits close to the transmission housing, so a thick-walled socket won't work. I find a 3/8" drive socket works, with a 3" extension so the ratchet-head does not hit the transmission housing.

The largest wire to the starter solenoid is held in place by a 13mm washer-nut, if it is the original. A ratcheting wrench works best for this one.

Being a computer geek is no excuse. I'm quite the computer geek as well, and I do all the maintenance on my cars. Nuts and bolts aren't any different than screws and molex connectors! It's just a little more messy, that's all. Cutting your knuckles on a crescent wrench isn't any different than slicing your fingers on a Zalman CNPS9700!

True the darn case are sharp in areas, i guess i just need to dive in and see what happens. I guess if I break it someone can always help me fix it.

starter replacement

call or PM me if you have any questions, I can post some pics if you need them. My 95 ATX is up on jacks currently, so pics of the starter location are no problem.

I agree this is a fairly simple replacement with a few basic mechanics tools and two jackstands.

be sure to disconnect the neg battery cable first.

here are a few links which may help.

Not totally specific for the SHO, but good info on how much to torque the bolts, etc.
