yeah since I posted this I found out the t-bird turbo would be too small.

What if you ran twin turbos? if one of those runs 2.3 liters, then 2 can run 3 liters.. right?

the possibilities are endless.. ;)

Yes, however it depends on which turbo you are running. The 87/88 Turbocoupe had the IHI turbo, which is too small for even the 2.3. The Merkur, Mustang SVO, and earlier Turbocoupes have the T3. This would be a better match, however it's still a little too small for the SHO, IMO. After doing some simple math for turbo sizing recently, I found out that 3 cylinders in one SHO head outflow all 4 cylinders in the 2.3, so even in a TT setup it should be able to support a larger turbo than the 4 banger can.

yeah since I posted this I found out the t-bird turbo would be too small. So that sucks I guess I"ll have to look around or just buy a new one and spend a bit more. I"m thinking a GT28RS would work well for a quick spool and descent power level.

that sounds good. you'd be doing yourself a favor. I can say that things can get pretty complicated under the hood and atleast for me, it's nice to know everything is functioning, new and properly spec'ed/sized/engineered. some new parts have warranties too!

the way I see it, I don't want to drive down the road worrying about oil seals, old/used fuel injectors or whatever else used part may/will fail. it's bad enough to drive a 14+ year old Taurus to begin with.

I've always hated the idea of remote mount turbos. What'll happen when that 1000 degree turbo gets splashed time and time again in puddles?

It actually doesn't run nearly as hot as a turbo thats right off the exhaust manifold so it's not as big a problem as you would imagine.

don't look under a Porsche, or a F1 car. many full-effort turbo cars have low mounted turbos that can and do get hit with cold road water spray. then again, I would not forge a river in a low mounted T-setup though.

yeah I know your point, but also I"m very much a budget modifier. If you look at my sig and see the mods on my focus.....all power and handling mods I only have $600 in them. Until I get a better job I've gotta scrimp and save for any descent parts. So I'm used to buying or using used perf parts. In fact all of my perf parts on the focus are used or custom made.

The SHO is my second car, so if I have a prob and break down Ive got something else to drive that is dependable unless I blow it up with nitrous. ;)

I wouldn't worry about the turbos weathering road conditions on a remote setup as much as I'd worry about the weight of the 3 miles of piping neccessary to make it happen!

Pair of T3's(chrysler/dodge) on a 5.0 mustang. Remote mount too. Good info on this site also.

That kid lives in Tennesse, I talked to him a few times when he was putting it all together. Helped him with some ideas on it. There is a complete buildup thread on Turbomustangs.com of that car. Works very well. It is a 95 5.0, with H/C/I, I beleive.

Here is the link, http://www.turbomustangs.com/smf/index.php?topic=45570.0

Is it safe to run a small turbo running like 5 PSI on a stock motor???

Size isn't the issue, 5lbs of boost is safe for 9:1.

im running a 16g at 8psi most of the time. had it upto 10.5 with out a problem and this is a non-ic setup. bone stock engine fuel system and all. 9.8:1 c/r so 5psi wont be a problem at all. and sure size does matter... 5psi from a 100mm turbo would be like lets just say 1100cfm of air..... do you have the fuel system to feed that much air? hehe or if you have lets say a t3 at 5psi your pushing lets say 300cfm of air. much less fuel is needed :p sorry just thought id throw in my $0.02 this is just an example theres no real facts with the numbers i used.
