i got bored after work today and i was foolin around with the SARC fuse...im not one to really care about a little softer ride and a little more power steering...so i was just wondering if one of you could tell me if its alright to leave out..i know about how i can make a switch but i dont really want a switch..if i ever want it back on i can just pop the fuse back in right?it wont effect anything if i leave it out?

Sure you can leave it out...if you have a SARC fuse. Only the early 99's have 'em. What was your build date?

Easy way to tell is if you have a OD off button....you've got a SARC fuse.

You may have the fuse...but you don't have the SARC shocks. All late 99's, including mine, don't. Unless yours is special

The switch over date was in November of 1998.

Easy way to tell....push down on the car while its running...on the hood. Feel the shocks. Pull the fuse...try it again. If theres a difference...you've got the SARC...but I doubt it.

Well there is definetely a difference in the steering with the fuse out..It is alot harder without the fuse..and i am almost posititive that it is riding different...although i only drove a little bit with it out..i will test more tommorrow on my way to work
smile.gif
and i will try pushin down on the SHO tommorrow if i get a chance to put the fuse back in..

the SARC is present in every Gen III SHO, but the difference is, that SARC controlled the steering too, sort of like the VAPS on the Gen II's. So even if you don't have the SARC struts, you still have the SARC controlling your steering.

True to some extent. The SARC is related to steering effort to help maintian ride control. After the 11/98 cutoff date, Ford probably decided to go with traditional shocks and just left the tie-in to the PS system because it did not hamper drivability. I believe that the shocks on the '99's also didn't have the height sensors... another indication of non-SARC equipped SHO's.

Last summer I left the fuse out for a few months. I don't see how you would cause any harm to any part of the steering or suspension by not having the fuse in.
I really like the feel of the car when the struts are in full stiff mode. It felt really weird after putting the fuse back in. Especially how easy it was to turn the steering wheel.
Eventually I'll install a switch. For now it's no big deal to pop the hood and pull the fuse.

Thanks for the info guys...i love driving with the fuse out...the steering makes it feel more like a "race" car...though i still have my self convinced that the suspension feels different with the fuse out

i can swear it feels floaty with the fuse in sometimes and never with the fuse out...but i guess its just my imagination..
