I found a company called l and m engines and they can make cams for our engine. They would be custom cams they would need a set of stock cams to get dimensions from. They want 1000 dollars a cam. How much of a performance gain could these give us

Very wide discussion from my understanding. Holding the intake longer or shorter vs exhaust is all about the power balance. I'd need to research this as its been a few years since I had looked into this wild modification.
What I do know is the CAMs we received were not the original design, but tamed down for family/street driving.

Interesting topic, would like others to chime in. Boost vs N/A concerns, etc.

I have some 1.7 rockers for the vulcan. Definite power increase.

I just realize it was "per cam". Egahds! Those must be built from the ground up CAMs. I was originally thinking they were reworking the originals. I can see doing that for about $1K, but only if its all 4.

Pat,
Just get a bottle.
Your tranny can only handle about a 75 shot, but you will definitely notice the difference.

In reworking cams, one cuts the BOTTOM of the lobe and then sticks in bigger shims. The bottom of our lobes is too thin to allow this practice.

No way I would spend that on a GenIII. You could add another $800-1000 for cam welding on top of it. No way. This design was highway cruiser and modifications are a waste of time with the transmission it came with. I loved my GenIII -with several caveats- but you should probably enjoy it for what it is. unless you have piles of cash you won't miss
