thats what i was going to ask????
the cams dont need to be welded, together, or anything.... the cam sprockets need to be welded.
im lost with this one.... did you have to do something else to the motor?
wow.... have you been to www.V8sho.com ??
I think this is the engine that already went SHOBOOM!. He bought it with spun cams thinking it was an IAB valve problem or somthing like that.
see thread here http://www.shoforum.com/showthread.php?t=40643
Ok, reading that post clears things up a bit. It's too late to weld the cams. You need a new motor. A head swap might do the job, but you'd be looking at almost the same price.
I already have the heads off and they are at the machine shop being looked at. I have all four cams including the new one. All the exhaust valves hit the pistons. They only left small half moons. I am assuming they will be ok. If not let me know. Do I need a new engine or is what I am doing ok?
What you are doing may be OK, but you're probably going to spend as much if not more than a replacement motor would have cost. The big concern is piston or rod damage that is not visible to the ***** eye. Plus, installing heads and retiming the motor in the car is a major PITA.
In any case, get in touch with Kirk at http://www.nesho.com I'm sure he'll give you a good deal on welding the four cams that are already out of the car.
You need a jig to weld them loose . I use 3.4 head that was damaged by a valve wedged in it sideways as a jig and TIG weld the whole circumference . The failed cam you have can be used as a test cam to set the welder up .
