So it all started a month ago, I was driving from Columbus to Cincinnati and my car loses power all of a sudden...I give it gas, nothing -- tach shoots up but it's struggling and slowing down. I finally pull over and it just dies, doesn't start. I had it towed to ShoFast and after 4 weeks of looking at it, no results...Everything in the fuel system was checked, even had a couple of injectors replaced, still nothing. The car starts up now if you give it a little gas when turning the key, but the idle is TERRIBLE. Process of elimination has said no fuel system problems, and no bad coils...Could it be the cam timing? I know you have to get in there to replace the chain, so is it an expensive fix? Don't let me down guys...

First thing is to pull any codes that may have tripped during the incident. If no codes then you are limited on what can cause that type of failure in most cases.
Fuel System: pressure test the fuel pump, then check to make sure you don't have water in it (happened to me about 20 miles after filling up once), and of course the injectors can plug but otherwise rarely fail.
Ignition: Plugs can foul or in some cases even fall apart. Obviously pulling them will tell a story of what or how your car is running. Also while there out it would be wise to do a compression test.
Internals: As mentioned in the previous one a compression test will verify most issues dealing with this.

Most all other issues will have SES light and trouble codes associated with them that can help pinpoint the issue. I never read mine after the cams let loose but I would suspect mis-fire indications and a host of others were present, of course if your cams are not welded then that would be the first place I would be looking.
As for the cam slipping time? Well I have seen a pic of one that lost one of the plastic guides and aluminum bracket the got jammed down in the crank gear, but that motor locked up as a result. I am not saying it is impossible to slip time but generally a lot of damage has to occur first to allow the chain to slip a tooth and the resulting broken parts seem to have little space to float around without causing the motor to stop all togeather. Would not be on my initial list of things to worry about unless I hadn't taken care of my care and the oil changes.

I had my cams welded a little over a month ago, this problem happened about two weeks after I got the car back. The spark plugs were just changed at that point too. The fuel pump was checked last week, as for the compression test, I don't know if that was done. So where does that leave me? I mean obviously something has to be wrong. The idle is absolutely terrible and you have to keep giving it a little gas otherwise it dies out.

That sounds just like the car I have here, its a 97 SHO w/154k, I can get it to start, but it wont idle on its own. I have to atleast give it some gas to keep it from dying and I can smell raw fuel. The car had 2 DTCs present (Cylinder 1, Cylinder 2 misfires) before this happened, but it sets no codes after I reset it, and have started it and ran it. Im still trying to diagnose this, the car is just kinda sitting for now.

well i had to redo my engine (upper engine) due to a cam failure, now after about 2000 or so miles, i have a hard time starting the car when it sits for a long time like overnight, sometimes not that long but it get a rough idle sometimes also, i know my car motor is right i done it myself, and took my time at doing it, but i am going to check the fuel system i think there is something wrong there, some one told me it could be the fuel presure regulator which i had a idea of that or a valve in the tank, so i would start on the fuel system before anything else.

I'm also getting some misfires on my engine. I've thought about just running it to see if it will just fix itself after a little driving since it sat for a couple of weeks.
