Is it possible to replace the cam seal behind the cam sensor without removing a bunch of stuff on that side.

I am replacing my cam sensor tomorrow and I figured while I am at it I would replace the seal as well.

Well theoretically you could do the procedure by simply removing the CID (two 8mm bolts), then removing the vane (two Philips head screws that are soft and in there good - be careful). Then you'd be able to access the seal.

But as far as practicality goes, I'm not sure, that will be up to you. I think the timing sprocket would be in the way, so much more room with covers, belts, sprockets removed. Pull the power steering reservoir up too, I zip tie it up to something to hold it out of the way.

Keep in mind this is the biggest pain in the ass of the three cam seals due to the angle/lack of space even with all belts and sprockets removed. When I did cam seals on the '93 the upper two were cake and then the seal behind the CID rolled when I put it in (honestly, I knew something was going to happen - the entire 60k had been going way to smooth). I ended up having to pull the valve cover and the cam cap to fix it (or I could have ruined the new seal and punched it and pulled it back out). I will say having the cam cap off made installing the seal EXTREMELY easy! Don't forget to apply RTV to the cam cap and valve cover when reinstalling.

It's not bad on an ATX. I pull off the intake crossover and move the power steering reservoir out of the way. I usually thread one of the crossover bolts back into the bracket, and that bolt sticking out will hold the PS hose up to keep the reservoir out of the way. Haven't attempted this on my MTX yet, seems like there's a lot less room between that last cam and the strut tower. That last one will probably wait until I have the motor out of the car someday in the future, it's not leaking too much now. It was pouring a steady stream on the ATX so I had to do it.

Loosen the lower engine mount bolt and jack up the front of the engine a few inches. Give yourself a bit more of a straight shot at the seal.
