Pulled the codes and read the site and looks like I need a cam position sensor/CID. 94 atx 3.2. Does anyone know what this is called or an aftermarket part #.
Autozone's website and NAPA's don't show it available for my car.

Help! Since it won't start.

I think the camshaft position sensor is the same on both the 3.0 and 3.2. It should be Wells part# SU 242. I just got one from Autozone a couple of weeks ago for my 3.0. They even had it in stock which is very unusual for most parts for these cars. Most any parts store should be able to cross reference the part number for you if you want to compare prices.

Just to be sure, we are talking about the round sensor at the upper passenger rear side of the engine. It is a real pia to get to and replace unless you have really small hands and arms. It should cost around $35.

The only reason I say this is that it is very easy when reading codes and a lot of posts on here to get it confused with the crankshaft position sensor, which is located at the bottom front of the engine by the crankshaft pulley.

Good luck.

actually on the ATX it is very easy to remove. The MTX is ALOT harder. Especially the bottom bolt. (however, I found a way to beat that problem)

And I just did what I warned about. The CAMshaft position sensor is wells part # F 134. The CRANKshaft position sensor is SU 242. Hope I didn't create too much confusion.

Oh yeah, sorry... i meant to post the procedure, but got busy...

Actually if you look through my posts, you'll find it. I recently posted it in the "call for picture" thread.

To remove the Cam sensor, use a 1/4 inch drove racked with a 5.5mm socket. There are 2 bolts.:thumb:

That's because their database is incorrect and they're only listing the sensor for the 3.0L DOHC.

If you have (or have access to) a second car, take the camshaft sensor off and take it with you. After they [again] say they don't have any listing for your car, ask for the store manager. Have the manager recheck, then check for a 1993 and 1995 ATX (none of which they'll find). Then tell the manager, "it's a Wells F134, and I brought the bad one to compare".

When s/he asks how you knew that (the F134) was the part, tell them that for some reason they only list the part for the 3.0L and not the 3.2L DOHC engine . . . . Then have the manager submit the problem (database error) via their email system.

Or if you really want to have fun

Before you go to AutoZone, go to/call Advance Auto, O'Reilly's, [insert the name of your favorite parts store] and get THEIR part number. When the AutoZone manager cannot find the part in their database, tell them, "[insert the name of your favorite parts store] has it and their part number is . . . ."
