ok i dont know if my tentioners are abd but im guessing yes... how do you tell?

i could pull up my one tentioner by hand.. it held there once i pulled it up but i dont know if it gets tighter when its running or what so the question is how do i tell and where do i get them at if its bad

The tensioners use a spring and oil pressure to keep the chain tight. if youve got them out already you mine as well take them apart and clean out the inside real good. The inlet on the bottom is big but if you look at the top of the tensioner just under the pad you will see a very tiny whole where the oil pressure escapes and sludge can build up in there and caust them to bind up. To take them apart you have to remove the pin on the side and it will come apart. After leaning them give the spring a little stretch before you reasemble the thing. Dont go nuts just do it enough to ensure good rebound to keep the pad agains the chain.

If the pads dont look bad just put them back in. You can get new ones from ford parts specialists i think? but they are expensive.
