I was under my car the other day finishing up my A/C delete bracket (1/2"x2" steel pipe and bolt) and I noticed that my rear brakes were frozen. Both rear calipers and the slide pins are frozen. So, I was wondering if any of your parts cars might have some good brakes, or will I just have to dump more money into my rust pile? I can get parts wholesale, but I'm not sure if they come with the support bracket with the slide pins on them? Since my car is doing so well though, if I'm going to put rear brakes on it, I might as well put a new axle in it and do a 60K sometime too (i've never done one!!!). Ok, now i'm just rambling. Just let me know what you think. Thanks.

Oh, by the way, I put new rear calipers on it about 50K ago (along with pads and hoses). It seems like they should last longer? The pads still have well over half of their life too.

I think autozone sells new caliper brakets for 19.99 IIRC. At that price there is really no need to use used ones IMO.

Check the rubber hoses, they're probably gone. As well, your parking brake cables are probably rusty and don't release the parking brake fully, thus cooking the calipers in the rear and grinding the pads away prematurely.

Don't know if this helps or not, but I was at U-Wrench-It in KZoo this morning with SuperHO and WifeofSuperHO hunting wabbits and there was a decent mileaged SLO there that had rear disc's for some reason. Might be able to get some parts for your car off that one?

The hoses still look pretty good (not cracking or anything), and I just put them in 50K ago. Also, The e-brake cables are completely gone. I have no e-brake anything in my car anymore. I guess I'll see what new parts go for. I keep telling myself I'll drive this car until it dies, but I keep putting more and more money into it...... grrrrr....

You can get the new brackets or you can be cheap like me and clean up the old ones. I just pulled em off, pulled the sliders out, cleaned the slide pins with a wire wheel. Used a small dremel bit for inside the brackets themselves. I then used a mixture of wheelbearing grease and never seize all over the slide pins and in the brackets. So far about 6k of everyday driving with no hang-ups.
(You will definately need a vise, some vise grips and alot of elbow grease to get those rusty slide pins out).
