Anyone know the piston sizes on the Gen 2 and Gen 3 front calipers?

Actually this is about me considering a 96 upgrade on my 93 MTX, am worried about brake balance. The ratio of master cylinder to caliper piston areas is important to balance.

If the 93 to 96 piston changes much I need to think about how this works with the stock brake bias mechanism.

TIA,

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I wouldn't call the SHO brake balanced.

The balance is controlled by a device that is attached the rear control arms. When the butt end of the SHO gets too high off the ground it closes the line to stop the pressure to the rear calipers. Its more of an on/off switch.

So what I'm saying is don't worry about it. When I did mine I didn't feel anything wrong. I just don't seem to be warping rotors anymore.

The 96 brake upgrade does not include the gen III calipers. It includes the gen III rotors and caliper brackets so there is not an issue with brake piston size. Check out the Shotimes faq on this subject.

Right, you can use the same calipers that are on your car now, if you want. The basic 96 brake upgrade is just Gen III rotors and caliper brackets, and for your car, new knuckles. There are, however, bigger and better calipers available for the front and back if you want to take that route.

I'm using GenIII Calipers on mine but you don't have too.

The calipers required for the 96 brake upgrade are different than what's on your 93, but the same as a 94-95 SHO. I don't think there was a master cylinder change from 93-94, so the piston sizes from the 93 caliper to the 94-95 should be compatible. Many, many folks have done this to pre-94 cars, so I think they're very close if not identical.

To put the 96 brake upgrade on your car you'll need 94-95 knuckles and calipers, and 96 rotors and caliper brackets. As previously mentioned there's a ton of helpful stuff on shotimes.com related to this mod, including complete parts lists, etc.
