Hey guys I have a CAI on mine and im wondering how important is getting this installed correctly.
what I mean is i have heard a few things on the internet from needing a tune to adjusting the maf to property location.

I see to be having a pretty hard time getting mine to be set properly I threw in a walker maf and got a rich code
and my old maf seems to be lean although im not sure.

I noticed that rotating the maf in diff positions changes how the engine acts

fuel trims are confusing to me because i have seen newer cars with similar fuel trims.
here is my setup EpUpwAL
epUpwAL

is there any tips and pointers on putting in a CAI?

Well, first off, that set up tends to end up being a hot air intake rather than cold. Engine temperature under the hood gets quite high, and you are taking air in directly from under the hood. Previously the sax brought in at least cooled air from near the front of the car. Sucking hot air from under the hood tends to cause minor confusion in a lot of the programming for how the fuel/air system works.

You might want to toss that and just run a four inch hose line from the inner wheel well directly to the old MAF box. That will bring in constant cool air as well as put the MAF in line with the fuel/air programming.

I did run a 4'' dryer hose from the bumper up and into that area and my intake temp isn't much worse than stock. My question is I feel like it's making my car run lean or causing a slight pinging.

Ya, not the same thing. Some form or Porterization to the inner wheel well is really the only way to go. One of the failings of the sax to the front of the car is that the 'ram' effect did not really work. Get actual cold air from the inner wheel well and the engine will be much happier and produce closer to its designed power. Taking air from under the hood just is not the way to go. There is a bunch of data in various places over on V8SHO.com, if you want to dig it out.

Yeah Im gonna either back to stock air box or some how route my intake in the fender I ahve a feeling my computer has to re adjust every time and trys to find a medium but ends up detuning itself or something.

One quick question I noticed is in pictures of other v8shos the adapter that the MAF screws there's is metal and mine is plastic. it was like that when i first got it.

Mine is plastic. Actually, I think I have only seen plastic ones, so I would not worry about it.

The thing to do is put the stock air box back in to keep the computer happy and then cut off the sax at the intake leaving a lip of about half an inch. Then get a foot of 4" truck rad hose so it is smooth inside and out, attach it to the lip with a few screws, and put the other end through the cutout into the inner wheel well. You will have to cut some of the hose off at an angle to get it in an inch or two and otherwise just stopping inside it so there is clear, cold air and zero water for the intake. For appearance sake, you might want to put a stainless rad clamp over the screws into the lip of the airbox. Looks good that way. :)

Yes Stephen, I have one or two....Airboxes too. With uncut Saxacones! Someday, some crazy fool is going to want to actually restore one of these critters. I got those back to stock parts.

Your assumption that I have a 'few' spare parts is correct. More like about 3 cars laying around in containers waiting for V8 SHO owners to need them.

Always looking for that perfect rust free Southern Car with a cam failure and good trans and a cloth interior. I know, dream on...

Ever sit on leather in a car that has been sitting outside all night in -20'F weather?

Also. Butt sticks much better on cloth seats in the twisty's.

Not thrilled with leather seats. They don't perform in extremes.

Yup, I have done both of those. Certainly uncomfortable for a moment. Normally I just bring a towel with me from the house and toss it over the seat initially. I have had cloth seats that are close to as miserable in those conditions. Your point about sliding is certainly right for the SHO seats, though. Never have this problem with the leather ones in the 911 because they are designed and shaped to not let it happen. The ones in the SHO are mainly comfort oriented, I suspect.
