I have broken the snap insert that secures the cable to the ball on the selector cable at the shifter. Where does one find this part?

There is a MOPAR part that fits it just right. But the info is in my SHO Registry mags, which are at my house at the lake. Sorry I could not be of more help. When I had a CS, i used duct tape to hold it together during the 2000 Convention.

I want to add that I believe this part fails due to have non synth oil at 8 below 0 and muscling it into reverse with some degree of haste. I am not aware what oil is in this trans. But its very stiff in cold weather. The plastic ball fastener evedently becomes very hard in the cold and is prone to crack apart. This probably would not have happened if I would have allowed time gears to fall into place slowly.

Heh.. I've got the mopar clip on mine, and it works great...

until last week.

I had a valet (hey it was free...) park my car. 5 minutes later, I dropped reverse and 5th gear. Thankfully I only had 2 screws holding in my center console (swap from a 92) and was able to muscle the balljoint into the cable loop. Its currently working fine with ducttape and mopar clip, but the plastic ball joint is completely missing. (I'm doubleclutching quite a bit to keep strain off the plastic loop, and there's about 1.5inch of play in my shifts)

I needta fabricate something for it soon though, or get a new cable -- or a rod shifter and Y pipe. Anyone have a suggestion?

sounds like my problem. I lost 5th and R also....got under the car and noticed the little ball/cup thing wasn't even attached. Wire tied them together and now I lost first. Maybe I need to look under the shiftboot and see if something is broken there first.

This mopar clip is a joke. I modified a 1/4 in ball joint spherical rod end with a ballstud cut it round to .680 o.d. and cut the ball off the shifter end & welded it up redrilled it to accept the 1/4 in ballstud and now I'm a millionare.

I went through this ordeal a couple of weeks ago when it was really cold outside. Me and my lady friend jumped into the car, I went to through it into reverse and bang, I was stuck. I clipped it back on, but it broke again down the road. Made out to be a very dangerous, and embarrasing drive back home. The mopar clip wouldn't keep the damn thing together either. Until I put the c clip with the open part facing up with two zip ties to keep it from expanding when I shift. Its been fine ever since. Speaking of which, I just put my console back in after all this time--I didn't know when it would fail next. Long story short, the mopar clip does work, but I will be looking for a rod shifter come warm temps.
