Cable Shift Shim?

On the way home last night my cable shifter gave out and I was stuck in 2nd gear.

Took it apart tonight and I see the hose clamp fell off. "Hose clamp?" Yes, the previous owner must have had this problem once and rigged a hose clamp to hold the cable on. Clever. I was able to use the same clamp and get the car back together.

I did some searching here and on the rest of the web and found the Mopar part 04340118 fix for the cable shifter. I will go ahead and get that part to replace the worn hose clamp, but I hate how loose the shifter is. Any parts anyone know of that can fit in the hole of the cable and over the **** of the shifter to tighten that up?

I borrowed this picture from another thread since I did not think to photograph mine till I had it back together.

Since those MOPAR parts come 6 to a bag I will pose in Wanted forum and see if anyone wants to sell a single one.

I have some rubber suspension bushing from another car wedged in there. It's been holding for a big 4 years without problems or wear. Maybe someday I will go out and install the rod shifter that's waiting to go in with the new exhaust.

Got it all fixed, thought I would share for those that may find this thread later.

I tried all sorts of things in my garage, but nothing would fit over the peg on the shifter, and in the hole in the cable. I saw some sheet metal laying there and found my cutters. I cut a piece about 2" long and 3/4" wide. I rolled it into a sort of circle and through trial and error got it into the hole on the cable. It fit over the peg and snugged it up pretty well.

Moving the shifter back and forth finished rounding out the metal. I put a tiny bit of bearing grease on the shim to make the metal to metal contact go a little smoother. It still has a little play, but is a lot better then it was. I was afraid thicker metal would be a lot harder to work with so I called it good enough.

I then put the infamous Mopar clip on.

I had to squeeze it to about half it's original gap, but it is on nice and snug now. With the shim and clip I have very little play between the shifter and the cables now. Total cost of repairs, under $3.

Hey, we're like brothers! MY shift link is screwed, and I fixed it with a hose clamp. It gave out yesterday, only two weeks after I fixed it! Right now, I'm getting ready to spend this rainy fourth of july day doing the stupid fuel injector o-rings...outside. SO! Any of those clips left? Or did you just get one from somebody else?

Dodge dealer sold me a single one. Took like 2 days for it to come in.
