Bypass AC compressor

Wanting to bypass AC compressor, 95 Taurus SHO. I assume a shorter serpentine belt is needed. Possibly Goodyear part #4060812. Some say a longer belt is needed then stock. I just need my car to work. Anyone know? Thanks

Thats one of them try and see type things. And keep returning it for either a longer or shorter one and testing it out to make sure it dont slip under full load of the alternator or steering pump in cold weather and in rain. Usually depending on the age of the components someone would be fine with one belt but someone may need one an inch shorter or longer. Even if the crank pulley was replaced by a smaller diameter one.
I can look in my sho workshop manuals to see if there was an option to not have ac also.

what my father did on his car was to defeat the compressor by removing the electronics from the AC. He didn't bypass it, but now its just a free spinning wheel

On one of my 92's, the previous owner just removed the pulley. You can run a string to see what length you need. If you delete the pulley, see AREA 91's post

When I bought my white 89 off eBay, it was bypassed by just running a belt that bypassed the compressor, that was still in place. Never bothered checking that belt, as I had the shop get the a/c functional again.

You mentioned a serpentine belt, which leads me to believe you have an ATX. If that's the case, it can't be done because of the front idler pulley. On a '90 MTX, I deleted the compressor and used a 60" 6 rib belt. Length of belt is usually built into the part number. Posts replaced the compressor so that the alternator could be mounted in the correct location.

There may be another option. There is such a thing as an AC compressor bypass pulley, which is basically a pulley mounted on a bracket that bolts up in place of the AC compressor. You would use the stock belt length, and there would be no AC.

Here is a link to a search I did on Bing. I don't know much about the early Gen SHO's or their engines, so I will let you do the digging to see if one is made to fit those cars.

Thank you. It's been proven difficult for me to find anyone who knows what an sho is, let alone anyone with any extensive knowledge or experience with them period.
Now, most parts places I have been in contact with in my area no longer carry any parts related to the ac compressor or bypass conversion kits. The only thing readily available to me is the clutch bearing, for the ac compressor, or the ac compressor pulley. I'm exactly sure, as I am no mechanic obviously. Lol
I am wondering, what is it that usually causes issues with the ac compressor, and or the pulley. Is it the bearings? I know with any vehicle, its most often a very common issue. A flaw or defect. I know my air conditioning has not worked since I bought my car, which also seems to be the case in similar instances.
So, I am wondering what the best course of action is here. Seeing as how this is the only place I have found thus far, where there is anyone who knows anything about these cars. I appreciate the good advice. Thank you

Yes, thank you. We attempted to basically skip the ac compressor pulley, with a different belt, which seemed to work at first but upon closer inspection, it wasn't possible to do so. Now, my car was in fact running, I managed to get it home 1.5hrs away. It was damaging the belt, and some of the other pulleys didn't seem to have the belt going around them in the right direction. So yes, I believe I know why now. It worked in a pinch to get me home, the day before Christmas eve. But I'm lucky.

Yes, bypass pulley conversion kit is one of the options available to me. But the availability of the parts is proving tricky. It looks as though my options are to order one online, which we all know all sorts of horror stories about ordering anything online, or trying to track down one from an auto wreckers, which I am leery about as well.

Another suggestion has been to attempt to force oil into the bearings in the ac compressor clutch. Along with an ac recharging kit for pressure, try to free up the seized bearings.
That being said, is it most likely seized clutch bearings, which are readily available to me? I may not be mechanically inclined, but I am smart enough to figure out how to fix this, with some good advice from the helpful ppl on here . Thank you!!

Just get a new compressor, and get it working like it should. It isn't just cold air in the summer, it's dehumified air to your defroster in the winter.

AC repair costs the same whether the car is worth $1, 000, $10,000, or $100, 000. It's the cost of owning a vehicle. Eventual resale drops by the cost of doing it right.
