is one of the most frickin funniest things i have ever tried to do! i saw that hermantown cars had a sho for sale at 2,995. so i figures i would go look at this 93 red atx and see what it like. it had 110350 on the clock and the interior left much to desire, the celing was cut and marked everywhere, the seats were in good shape actually. so the sales guy walks over to me and starts talking to me about the car. he tells me there is a yamaha motor in it, leather, body is in good condition etc..... so i ask him, "what size is the motor" and i get "uuuuuuu, theres more than one?" so i pop the hood and show him that its a 3.2, he started it up and it ran really strong, sounded very nice. from then i said that it was an accident and the body was fixed. He said ya the right front was replaced. so he asked if i wanted to take it for a test drive, and of course i wouldnt turn that down. so got in, backed it up, put in drive and hit the first bump. and all i could hear from the rear end was CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK!!!! bad struts/coils instant thought. so i got it on the road and she has a hard time shifting from 1st to 2nd, super hard shift. i hit a dip in the road and the rear end didnt stop moving up and down for a block after that! and it does pull to the left pretty hard too.so i drove it back and went inside. he asked how the drive went, and i never saw a mans face be that unhappy with my words. "well it needs rear struts, the left rear coil is broken, so it really needs all 4 struts and coils, to be safe and to prevent anything else going wrong. it shifts really hard from 1st to second, and im sure that it will blow a diff. pin soon, plus tha tranny will need lots of work, that most people dont know ** to do. some of the buttens dont work inside on the dash, and the car pulls preety hard to the left. o and there is some hesitation when excelerating from a completestop, otherwise it went fine." keep in mind i was gone for about 2 minutes. he didnt know what to say, so i spoke. "ill give ya 2,000 right now out the door, cash." and his wife looked at me like i asked to buy a new bmw for 500 dollars.:laugh_ti: she was like "is that a joke?" and i was totally serious. so he said i will go as low as 2,400, out the door. "then im walking out the door and going to my car." he actually tried to say that all the car needed was the rear struts and nothing more, and that it would be fine with just that. he just wouldnt believe that i knew more about the car than him, and that really bothered him, lol. i had fun though.

anybody else have stories of car salesman?

I went and looked at that car one night, it LOOKS nice. Haha if it'll help you out i'll go test drive it and tell him the same thing "tranny is about to shit the bed and this thing needs struts all around". Maybe then he'll take something less then 2g for it. Sad thing is in duluth cars are way too overpriced. Cars that go for 500 dollars in florida (recall my brother telling me about a 99 taurus se with 93k and a blown headgasket going for just that) would sell for THOUSANDS more up here. I actually know a guy who buys cars from texas from texas for less then 2gs and sells them up here for 6k plus!

you should go test it! if nothing else it makes your car feel like a brand new performance car, and you should tell him what you think. they are moving soon and im going to offer him 1200 for it cash before he moves to texas, otherwise he is out of his mind with that car, but do go take a look at it, its worth the time i think... i wouldnt mind buying it for 1200 and then putting money into it...

Yeah, I drove by it. It looks good from the road. Let's just say I could only see giving him a grand for it considering what I just paid for mine that needs no work.

**** Why pay that much. I've got a green/mocca 1993 3.2l with a rebuilt ATX under 2500 miles on it) in it. it blew a rod throught the oil pan. But if you got an enegine to dropin it it would be well worth just giveing $750 for it.

I got my 95 atx from the dealer for 950, but thats only because i was the service tech that inspected it when it was traded in and knew exactly what was wrong with it so they couldnt pull one over me lol. main reason i wanted it is that it is RUST FREE. i even went as far as to pull off body cladding to check the rockers, floor pans every nook and cranny i could check. bottoms of front doors have some slight bubblage but that is it. its got just shy of 199,000 and the trans shifts perfect, i think it was driven fairly easy through its life.

paid 600 for a 92 red/black mtx , and 600 for a 94 white /tan atx.

Now the white ATX is getting a black interior (cept dash-steering-console) , and the MTX.

The truth of the matter is any old SHO with a major problem such as as trans, clutch, heater core, even struts & springs, ect... is in reality, reguardless of condition, a $300 car. The cost to repair any of these items exceeds the value of the car in the real world. There is a very very small minority of folks who will argue this point and those guys are SHO owners.

My ATX sold for $1800 and it was pretty decent car, modded too. 2 grand is a joke for that thing, especially if the trans is going.

Ive seen the car as well, i saw it like the first night it went out. Its going downhill fast. The price their asking is absolutely rediculous. But thats used dealers for ya. Although it probably does book on KBB for around 2k. :)
