This would be on The Daily Driven, 3.2 MTX.

The Motor supposedly has about 73-4 Thousand Miles on it. I don't know if the 60k's Ever been done, I assume not. However, It does not leak a drop of Oil, Does not Smoke, Etc...Etc.

Regardless, This thing Likes to go through Oil pretty Quick! Just a few minutes ago I got a call from Ashley saying the Check Oil Light is on. I know just about a Month ago I refilled it to the top (Because again, It was low).

Any Idea's where all this oil is going? I'm not to worried, As it runs great. If it Just burns oil quick because that's the cool thing for 3.2 MTX's to do, Then so be it!

Any Input Appreciated.

I have an 89 that absolutely will not retain synthetic oil. Again, no smoke, no puddles but wicked consumption. Try a higher viscosity regular oil, and I find it is good to stay away from QS when it comes to oil consumption.

I use 10W-30, Castrol High Mileage.

The Motor does not leak a drop of anything now, But I know once I went over to synthetic Oil, It would probably leak like a Siv.

Try a higher viscosity oil and don't bother with the high mileage part. Try a straight 30, or if you must have multi-grade, go 20 W 40 or 50. On my 89, I run as high a viscosity as I can bear. You have enough good weather left to experiment with this idea.

damn I was thinking almost this same thing when I read the thread title before I read your post lol

its the cool thing to do, what the **** if it uses some oil.... just consider it into the cost of running the car, just like fuel.... We used to think about mpg numbers involving fuel... but now we have another cool thing to waiste time on, thinking about..... MPQ!

miles per quart of oil

:3gears:

yeah thats my car doing a hard 2-3 shift, but the smoke ain't from the tires in my case

I certainly wouldn't go to any higher than 10w30...the high mileage is a bit thicker in an of itself, and is supposed to resist oil consumption more than the generic oil.

A 60k would obviously affect performance, but whether it has ever been done or not won't affect oil consumption. I would certainly try that AutoRx though....

...or you could just build a 3.2 like I did that doesn't leak or burn ;)

These engines have low-tension rings, and they like to get stuck - especially if the vehicle has sat for a while or if the prior owners were not good at regular oil changes. In my experience, there is a 90%+ chance that is your main issue. AutoRx may loosen up the stick rings, and using Mobil 1 (has lots of detergents) will help clean stuff up in there. I'd use a 0W30 or 0W40 Mobil 1 synthetic after the AutoRx treatment - and I've saved most of the ones that I've done that with.

If the rings are too stuck, they need to be take apart and physically cleaned to get loosened up.

Its possible that the valve stem seals are hard as rocks, too. The Mobil 1 may make that better, but if they are really hard, then they will need changed. There is around a 10% chance that is the main issue, in my experience.

Say Doug, Why don't you grab that 3.2 out of my Dads garage and get started on it for me!

I'll bet valve seals.

When I bought my '94, it had 168K miles, was 9 years old, had always been run on 5W-30 Mobil 1, and went through a quart every 800 miles. Never leaked a drop.

I went to 10W-30 Castrol High-Mileage, and consumption then dropped to a quart every 1600 miles. On the trip out to CA in '04, with fresh HM oil in it, it only went through 3 quarts in almost 6K miles, probably because it stayed nice & hot for the many hours of caravan driving.

I don't trust those fix in a cans too much.... Maybe for small oil problems but NOTHING big! Auto RX did NOT work for me, instructions followed and everything. I am in the process of now removing the heads to clean those dirty dirty pistons! You may be burning oil out of the exhaust and not know it. Floor it at night on the highway and see if you see smoke in the cars headlights behind you. Yeah it sucks to burn oil but fix it the right way once so you don't have to F with it again!

hummm so i guess i could try and hget some 10 W 30 to slow down the oil consumtion

it suck to have a engine that consume the oil

it suck but it seem to be a sho prb

i use red rocket
lucas

but auto rv i never seen this here in canada

could some one help to see what product your talking about

cuz ive used 3 stuff to remove crap inside the oil and wow the crap that came out from there lol and im sure i have more in there so maybe and autorx would really help

lol

and then ill run 10 W 30 as soon as soon as my 5 W 30 synthetic stock is depleted lol

and it does the same as my 3.8 mustang engine in my bull it after some 2000 km and the oil start to get dark then i get some oil comsumtion

Oil consumption

I've found that my SHO burns a lot more oil when I give it balls (5000+ rpm), still nothing I'd be worried about, maybe 1 qt/1.5k miles. If I drive it like a sane person, oil consumption drops to less than 1 qt between oil changes (= 3k miles). And I know that the rear cam seal leaks, it will drip on the exhaust manifold and smell inside the car. Just because you can't find oil on the floor under your car, doesn't mean it does not leak any.

I'm pretty sure i've read something on here about valve stem seals doing that. ftw, my SHO loses about 1qt. every 1500-2000miles. So basicly i add 1qt in between oil changes.

The Auto RX takes a long time to work (10K-15K miles) and it keeps getting better after you have used it.

Like said above you are burning it. Get on it at night with a car behind you and you will see the smoke.

I am burning a lot of oil. I fixed all the leaks, valve stem seals, front main, rear main, cam seals, valve cover, and oil pan seals. There is no more oil on the garage floor, but I loose 2 quarts every 300 miles.

I assume at this point it is rings. Would a compression test tell me which cylinder is the problem?

I guess the only way to fix it is to replace the engine, which I am not sure I want to do. This car has chewed up all of my limited time to work on cars, because I have also replaced wheel bearings and did a clutch.

Compared to those, how bad is an engine replacement?

Went to change the plugs, The plug wells were Filled with Oil (Conveniently the Fronts were bone try). The rear valve cover gasket is also starting to leak. I think I found where my Oil is going. ;)
