I was curious if anyone can offer any suggestions for fixing the rusty Y-pipe to manifold bolts when they break. I have been tracing an exhaust problem in the '91 and all four bolts broke on me (which I somewhat expected). Is it possible to replace them yourself, or what would a shop charge to change them out?

I think I found the problem (a rattling cat... yikes!) so I wanted to pull the Y off to check if it was the problem.

Also, the y to catback was repaired at some point and there are two nuts on the end of the bolt that I simply cannot get to move. Any suggestions on removing the spring bolts when there are two nuts on the end? The y-pipe is almost off...

I had my manifolds off and in a vise and still broke two studs off. One came out and I left the other. Took both manifolds to the machine shop and they removed the one, drilled and tapped the two broken ones for $30.

Otherwise somehow you are going to have to drill them out and either preserve the threads or go bigger and use bolts that go all the way through.

I just replaced my rodbearings and the same thing happened to me. I tried dilling out the bolts and retapping them, but it took forever and was a ****** job. So I ended up finding these awesome products for this exact purpose. They're called Clamp-a-Stud. Autozone, Checker, Advance Auto Parts don't have this product. I got mine from Thomas Auto Parts in Massachusetts. I can give you his number he would be glad to help you out. There are 2 different sizes, get the bigger one. They work great. I drove to Arizona and it's working great for holding the Ypipe on. They cost 20 each, but they work. You just need to drill a little hole (half inch deep) into the stripped bolt.

PM me if you're interested, or call a bunch of local shops, they might have them. :thumb:
