Well, its my fault actually.

Apparantly I did not tighten one bolt on the front mount well enough (I loosened the front bolts to help intall the rear mount). And now this bolt has sheared.

This is the bolt (and nut):

This is the mount (circled is the nut of the bolt im writing of):

Now I call the dealership and the were asking $49.95 for that bolt....I dont think sho. eek!

Can anyone tell me the thread size and pitch and length so I can just get one at a hardware store...Or is this bolt really a "special" bolt that deserves to be sold for 50 bucks.

Also, I remember using the original bolts for the extreeme mounts. Am I correct or do the Extreeme's come with thier own bolts (it was a long time ago).

Please help me on this, I need it back up and running ASAP.

Personally I would go to a hardware store and get some good grade 8 or metric grade 8.8 bolts. The best way to determine a bolt/nuts size is to take it in and match it up(Yes I see it's broken but you can take it in still and find one that matches). No the extreeme mounts do not come with new bolts(Just recieved mine in the mail about 2 hours ago thumb ). I'm going to use my original bolts too, but I'm going to make sure I torque them down properly. wink

Hope this helps,
Scott

Word, I did the exact same thing you did, except I did mine while driving at some point. Even took it to the dragstrip with one bolt holding my mount in doh , no onder my 60' times sucked. I thought the mount itself was busted until I removed it after buying a new one.

Check with some parts stores in the area. Alot of them will carry miscelanious bolts. I believe the one in question is a 10mm with a 1.5 pitch (check to be sure). As far as the nut goes, it can be hammered back into place. It might be a tad loose so it might be a good idea to tack it in there with a mig or tig welder.

Good luck

PM sent. If you get an aftermarket bolt and can't find one with the ****** at the head be sure to get a washer or two to prevent a return trip to the store.

I can't get a good focus on the bolt but it looks like there's a large unthreaded section. I would look for this in a replacement as well. Maybe a local Fasten-all or similar dealer.

What's the Ford part #?

Do you think you might be able to get me one for less?
We sell the correct bolts on our website, from the Motor Mount Page:

V6 MTX Motor mount bolts (2) (2 per front OR rear mount) N804-774-S100 34.11

34.11 for TWO is way less than you've been quoted. What concerns me is that it appears that you've torn the captive nut off the mount. :( What I would suggest is putting it back in place, and holding it with a wrench when tightening it back in.

If you will be 'working' the car hard enough to be snapping motor mount bolts, you may wish to consider using red loctite on the bolts, as well as adding a second nut (in addition to the captive nut in the mount) to each of the bolts, both front and rear. We have found the best nuts to use are exhaust manifold stud nuts. (V6 Exhaust Stud Nuts (4) N800-152-S2 5.44, Clutch Page) They are high grade, and have a flanged face that faces the captive nut, so it acts almost like a jam nut, or 'double nutted' if you will. This is what I use on the blower car, and nothing has come loose yet.

As expensive as the correct bolts are, you may be hard pressed to find a quality replacement. They are high strength, have an integrated shoulder, and rolled threads. You really don't want to be tearing the captive nuts out of the mounts any more.

One source you might want to consider for very strong bolots is ARP. There might be a performance shop in your town that carries a large selection of these fasteners. I would bet that you could easily find something that is strong enough for your application.

Thanks for all the help. What I am going to try to do is find the correct bolt at Pacific Bolt and Nut Co. They are a company that makes, well, Bolts and Nuts. They should have what I need.

I dont think that this happened because I 'worked' the car too much. It is as simple as my own stupidity: when installing the rear mount, I loosened the front to help, well I forgot to tighten one of the bolts. So apparently Ive been driving around with one bolt holding the front mount to the motor for quite a few months now. slap

I will be inspecting the other bolt for wear.
