I'm sure this has probably been asked before, and I did use the search funtion (briefly) but,

Can the 4 piston calipers from the 00 Cobra R simply swap onto the a Taurus with the Cobra set-up??
Here's a link to an ebay auciton that has some (I doubt anyone here plans on bidding on them) and I wasn't to sure if they would by looking at the pics. I don't know if it's a direct swap for the Mustang or not. just keeping the brackets on and swaping the calipers. It comes with new rotors too, just need to be redrilled.

I see Summit has the Cobra loaded caliper set up for $220. Best bang for the buck there.

I already have the 13" cobra setup. I was just looking at these as another upgrade. And it's something I don't think I've seen any one try yet.
I like to try stuff no one has yet, or something only a few have. And my rotors are almost done, so I would mind the new rotors (just gotta redrill them). I paid something 800+ for my Cobra kit from midwestsho and didn't thikn it was a bad deal. It was a little more cause I got the colored claipers and the slotted and drilled rotors. So for the extra 200 I didn't think this was too bad a deal.
Their Brembo 4 piston calipers made for the super rare 00 Cobra R. So I'm sure their a pretty good caliper. Plus I thought it would be another good option for people who already have the cobra kit and they want to upgrade to a 4 *** caliper with out haveing to change to a whole nother system. And I know their isnt too many other options for 4 *** calipers on a Taurus.

I did my entire cobra conversion for less than $220. Local parts supplier rebuilt calipers for $56 each, pads for $40 and rotors for $22 each. Not bashing the sponsors, cuz they are great, but the only reasone the sponsors are high is cuz of core charges on the calipers.

i see you have stock wheels in your avatar, so did they actually fit with stock wheels? was there any clearance issues anywhere? im sure its not the same as a gen 3, but close right?

12.5" baer kit will fit... barely, I hadda grind off some caliper and rim to make it work so I now have a clearance of say about umm zero but they work:biggrin: And as far as the money do it, who can say they have Mustang Cobra R 4 piston caliper brakes on their taurus:rofl:

The four piston application that I know of for the SHO is the Wilwood setup. The calipers are fixed. I would think this four piston caliper may be fixed also. PBR and stock calipers are floating.

I'm woundering how wide the willwodd caliper is and how wide the brembo is. If their the same we shouldn't need a wheel with a bigger offset (or spacers) unless the willwood requires them.
And does the willwood caliper sit on it's own bracket or does it bolt to the kunckle? (casue I'm not really sure what fixed and floating is, I've heard it pleanty of times). Casue I'm curiouos how the brembo bolts to the mustang. if it uses the stock bracket, we should be in business.

I'd like to try this but I got alot more other things on my plate (head&cam swap, PS rack and god knows what else)but hopefully someday:cool:

Floating calipers the caliper can move perpendicular to the rotors on slide pins. Fixed calipers are bolted solid and do not move. I would contact Todd at http://tceperformanceproducts.com/ about the wilwood set up. He offers two rotor widths and up to 6 piston calipers.

Talk to John H. about this (Deaconblue) as he was, or is, looking to do this. There was a bracket IIRC, that hadn't been made that was needed to work with the 94/95 knuckle.

FWIW the TCE Wilwood kit is nice. You can get 13x1.1" with a light weight 2 pc rotor, great pad selection, great performance. FSL calipers can be had for several rotor widths (.810, 1", 1.1", 1.25", etc). Probably lighter than the Brembo kit/rotors.

If you run the TD 17x8" PR1.2 wheel, you probably have enough room to put the 1.25" set up in there, seriously. Nice 13x1.25" rotor, at that point though I'd probably put the 6 *** BSL6 in there.

BTW Parkway Ford (hosting the auction) is up in N. GA, Joe Charles used to be the FRPP manager there, I dunno if he still is. Good guy though.

The outboard side of the Brembo 4-*** Cobra calipers is enormous. I have Brembo's machine and fitment drawings for this caliper, and you'd better have 50mm ( >2") clear space from the rotor outboard face to the inside of the wheel spokes to clear this caliper.

Axial radius clearance to the outside of the caliper body (measured from the wheel axle centerline) is 193mm (7.60"), on 13" rotors.

Good luck, this is a large, bulky caliper: On 13" rotors, it doesn't fit inside a lot of front-runner 17" Mustang wheels, and it's going to be more difficult with low negative offset FWD wheels.

Couple of things. Vendors are selling NEW products not rebuilt, and no way did you get 13" Mustang rotors for 22 each, the price on the pads sounds too low but im unsure.

I know I would not install a USED/rebuilt AL PBR caliper. They bend after use.

Just becareful with those and listen when you corner for a squeal/squeak noise.

Kirk, it depends on how cheap of rotors you get... We can get Cobra replacements for $24.00. I can't tell you how long they'll last you but hey, they're $24.00!
