I've not yet seen one nay.

Furthermore, if you're going to be the only vendor for this item, it stands to reason that as word gets out (which it will), there will be a perpetual demand for these grommets.

I have 2 full sets of these grommets, and even with the best 16 of them, I still have leaks.

Looking forward to seeing these get produced! :thumb:

So it sounds like I luke warm "Meh" :nut:

It sounds like we will go forward with the grommets. From development to delivery is probably 4-6 weeks. Thank you for all the quick response. It helps to know where to spend development time and money :salute:

We will keep you all informed on the progress.

Thanks

Mike

Mike, Viton is nice stuff, put me down for a set, I do notice that they tend to leak combustion gases as they age.

While you're at it maybe have a look at the spark plug well seals . . . . .

Yes, for some $80+ a set. It is primarily the spark plug seals that go bad, the valve cover rings can usually last 2x what a spark plug well seal lasts.

I can recall at least three separate occasions in which I have needed spark plug tube well seals and not valve cover seals. I always hate paying $80-90 for a seal set in which 60% of the cost is in something I don't need. It's akin to having to buy a manufacturing plant in order to get a car. If you come up with good, quality silicone or viton SPTW seals, I would gladly pony up near $80 for them in order to not have to worry about them shrinking up and drying out in a year.

Mike, thou I personally have not had a leak from the VCBG's that I installed as I always add a little RTV on the bottom of the grommet as I snap it into the clean VC. I then position the VC on the head & then insert the bolts & add a bit more RTV under the washer. BUT-if your going to make NEW grommets-I would luv (& buy) grommets that were 2-3 mm taller! It would REALLY be nice to go back in after 3-5 years & get a 1/4 to 1/2 a turn on them bolts to make up for the shrink of the sparkwell seals!

I do plan to make them slightly oversize to assure a seal, but I don't thnk you will get your intended benefit of being able to retorque the bolt/seal. If I understand the design of our valve cover bolts, they have a shoulder at the base of the threads, so the torque is generated when the shoulder of the bolt engages the head. A taller grommet will give more compression to the seal, but I think once it is torqued, it is torqued. With the light torque on our VC bolts as it is, I don't think we want the torque generated only by the compression of the grommet (they would vibrate loose). I view the torque only generated at the first 1/2" or so of the bolt to the shoulder, and the remaining long section of the bolt is all in tension holding the valve cover on.

Does that make sense?

What most people do not understand is that the VC gaskets/spark plug well seals do not shrink that much. It is that these grommets shrink and do not allow the gaskest to sit fully on the heads.

Sounds about right. That would also explain why they strip the head out so easy, too.

I woulnd't make them too much thicker. I'd hate to have the heads strip out before the bolt hits the shoulder.
