Brakes....

well its time to redo my brakes, the rotors are pretty much rusted to **** and the pads are about gone.... my question is that im tryin to stay as stock as possible and relatively cheap as well...... i think i may go with the OE front and rear rotors from midwest sho and then HAWK pads all around. is this a good setup for street application? plz let me know if there good to go or im just wasting my $. im tryin to stay under $200....

Why pay for shipping rotors? Get some cheap ones locally with a good set of pads.

I'd get the rotors from Auto Zone, the Hawk HPS pads for the front from where ever you can find them cheapest, and some semi-metallic pads for the rear from a local store.

I see in your sig that you have a 95. A 96 upgrade would not cost allot more since your replacing everything.

In that case, I'd get the Performance Friction pads so that you could get them in the right size pad since Hawk does not make the correct size for the 598's.

Yep...get the AZ or O'Reilly's rotors (somewhere around $25) and the PFC pads, which have a lifetime warranty.

I highly recommend the '96 upgrade, as well. I was in the same postion, my SHO's brakes needed some refreshing, and so I decided to go with the '96 upgrade while I was at it. It was one of my better decisions regarding my SHO, and knowing what I do now, I would be kicking myself had I not done it.

It's a great mod, you will defintely feel the difference, and it can be done to a '95 on a fairly measly budget. So go for it!

well thx guys, roughly how much did u pay for the 96' upgrade? i need them bad tho cause my rear brakes are really makin an obscene noise that i can't bear with anymore, ive had this for about 2 weeks now and its just so annoying!

For the 96 brakes on the street, I like the OEM Ford pads the best. They wear like iron, stop great when cold, DON'T dust, and won't fade on the street.

When running at the track at thunderhill at the convention last summer, I was impressed with the carbotech panther pads on the 96 brakes on the 92. Lots of bite and no fade.

Oops, I forgot...that's why I switched to Wagner pads, which I bought from O'Reilly's...

I think I am using Wagners on the rears as well. Not expensive, work well, lifetime warranty!

Can you tell I like lifetime warranties?

Here’s the tally from the recent brake job on my SHO:

- 2 Front Loaded Calipers w/brackets from Advanced Auto Parts (Part # 164382A) - $52.48 ($45.00 core) each

- Ceramix Front Brake Pads from Napa (Part No. CMX-7476) - $65.03 for the set

- Ceramix Rear Brake Pads from Napa (Part No. CMX-7489A) - $65.77 for the set

- 2 Front Brake Rotors (Duralast) from Autozone (54030) - $35.99 each

- 2 Front Brake Hoses from Autozone (Part Nos. 77706 and 78151) - $15.99 each

- Castrol Premium Brake Fluid - about $6.00

I wanted Napa Ceramix pads all around on my SHO, since I liked how they worked on my Ranger. I am fortunate in that I was able to take the semi-metallic pads that came in the loaded calipers and use them on my ‘97 SLO.

I also went with the better front rotors which cost a little more, you can probably pick up a set for under $50 if you went with the cheapies.

Like I said, not a whole lot of dollars spent for an excellent brake upgrade.

The more front brake you have, the less rear brake you need.

Do our '96 brake upgrade and leave the back ones alone.

well i have to redo my rears because the passenger side one is gone, i just found out today that my pad worn down and the iron that its held on is grinding against my rotor and its screwed.......
