What is "broken" on the caliper bracket? You said that the dust boots were torn, and from what I recall, there are only 2 boots on each caliper, one on each slide pin. I've only taken brakes apart a half-dozen times, though...

How many boots are torn, and how on earth did they get that way?

the two dustboots on the slide pins, are torn. Just look old. Also if the slip pin comes all the way out are you screwed?

If the slide pins didn't come all the way out, there would be a) no way to re-lubricate them and b) no way to replace them.

Once they're out, clean them well and re-grease them before you replace the boots. Chances are, the grease that was on them is done and replaced with dirt and/or rust by now.

What are you looking to have powdercoated? Wheels, calipers, other parts?

For something the size of a caliper, at a professional shop, the setup will cost more than the actual powder-coating. I got quoted $70 a piece for my wheels at a shop out here in Iowa (4 hous from chicago at my location), blasted and coated.

The calipers will probably run you $50-$70 each, because of all of the setup costs involved. Most powedercoating companies specialize in things like motorcycle frames, etc, so they're set up with huge spray booths and huge ovens -- not very cost effective for use on small items like brake calipers.

I can look into it a little further out here if you'd like, though.

The boots and pins are available at AutoZone.

If you are going to powdercoat the calipers you will need a rebuild kit for each one of them too as you have to remove the rubber piston seal and the internal seal ring.

AZ has the gen 2-3 rear calipers for under $40 eash and they are painted. The core charge is something like $75 each but that is refunded.
