2011TAURUSSEL
2014 SHO LMS Stage 1 V10
Here is the PhotoBucket link for my brake upgrade. Some text description is available in the individual photos but if you need more details let me know.
General steps:
1. Remove Wheels, jack, insert jack stands.
2. Remove Calipers and brackets. In this case the calipers were replaced on all four wheels so there was not as much attention to the fluid. As part of the caliper replacement and in combination with the bleeding I chose to perform a full system flush so totally new brake fluid reducing chance of moisture absorption in the system.
I will answer the most obvious question first. Why am I replacing calipers after only two years?
Simple answer, the red paint hand applied almost two years ago didn't hold up. I did a mid cycle repaint but still no luck. I found four calipers with brackets available at NAPA with the rust preventative powder coating applied. Although black was not my first choice they came in all the same color. MGP Red Caliper covers were applied afterward.
With that out of the way here goes.
The general steps listed above are a starting point.
We had two people with two jacks but still took a while.
Ours took about seven hours including clean up but that was all four wheels, bleeding, flushing and clean up.
Remember this general steps for brakes Work one wheel at a time but remove the other wheel to use as a reference. There wasn't anything overly unusual on this project other than the flushing and the caliper covers. The bleeding was required for caliper removal and replacement. Since I was already doing one step I went one step further and flushed the whole system as a baseline for new pads, calipers, and rotors.
Hardware, pads and rotors brought to you by brakeperformance.com Southern California shipping and manufactured in USA. I ordered the slotted rotors with ceramic pads and the black zinc rust preventative coating.
Calipers and Brackets brought to you by NAPA A-1 Cardone semi loaded calipers. Brackets included.
NOTE: The Rears come PRE COMPRESSED so no need to worry about turning the pistons in to provide clearance for the new pads.
Without further delay here it is. I got done late so I will try some additional daylight photos tomorrow.
