I needed to change the front brake pads on my '95 MTX. I purchased new Ford pads, went to put then on and they are too big. They go past the outside edge of the rotor by about 0.125". I then went on to try pads from Checker, Napa, and Autozone. All those pads exhibit the same problem. Thinking that the rotors were the wrong size--perhaps from a non-SHO Taurus--I purchased two new rotors from Checker. They are the same size as what is on there now. Can anyone tell me what I need to do. The current pads will only last another couple weeks. Thanks for the help

what are the part numbers for everything?

I bet you are being given the 96+ brake pads which fit in the caliper but have a larger sweep over the larger rotor....

ensure you are getting 601 pads (aftermarket) don't know what the ford part number is....

or go back and ask for pads for a 94 sho or a 96-99 NON-SHO taurus

I looked up everything on the internet for a '94 SHO, '95 SHO, and '96 non-SHO. All the part numbers were the same and none had a 601 in them. I finally called Autozone and purchased some Performance Friction pads, #6014. I hope these will work. Thanks for the help.

I looked at Raybestos from Checker, United Brake pads from Napa, Albany from Autozone and the OEM pads from Ford. I finally looked up the Performance Friction part number and called my local Autozone to see if they had it. They did. I will be trying the PF #6014 tomorrow.

When I called all my local stores (Ford included) I didn't know that I needed a 601 pad. I just took what their computer said. Obviously all the computers are wrong! I really appreciate you help on this thumb . I couldn't have done it without you.

not a problem....it seems that several companies list the 95 poorly.... from brakes to even APC Clear corner lenses.... they are listed from 95-99

I would imagine that the same is true for raybestos.... and perhaps some others... may have to do with some factory build date or whatever, i don't know... thats why i created the Parts Database... which you can find a link to in my signature.... I'm adding things all the time.... and now that i see you had an issue with this, i will add more brake brands to it so as to cut some confusion

Your parts database was the first place I tried. But it wasn't working. Perhaps because of the server move......I just tried it again and it's up now. Thanks again.

Your parts database is a valuble tool. Thanks for letting us all use it. By the way, the Performance Friction pads fit great.
