i'm getting tired of seeing my 96 upgrade get more and more surface rust and i wanna paint the calipers.........im thinking of black or red. the only black i can find is satin and im kinda lookin for shiny calipers. i dont know which one to go for...... :madflame:

i do have somewhere where i can take the front calipers/brackets and get them media/sand blasted for free to get rid of the surface rust.

just lookin for some of ur guy's input and what kind of caliper paint u guys used.

all help is very appreciated,
Adam M.

oh ya, I have a red with black accents 94 SHO. i guess thats kinda important isnt it....

i have hi-temp ford red and hi temp universal black in the garage right now....y didnt i think of that?. :bonk: does the paint hold up to brake fluid? i bleed my brakes a lot, so i would like something that does. i still need to get those things cleaned up first, should a wire brush get rid of that surface rust, or a wire brush on the end of a drill? i have no problem taking them off the car, brakes are easy.

is there any rubber parts or moving part i need to worry about?

is the "hi-temp" u used the engine enamel for up to 550 degrees or the HI TEMP stuff for up to 1200 degrees? i have access to both for very little $.(free for engine enamel) :)

i used VHT brake caliper paint in silver. used brake cleaner to clean the caliper (new caliper), then sprayed the caliper in several coats, then let it set for 4 hours. i tried handling it after 1 hour and it was still tacky.

roughly $8 a can. i applied 2 coats on 2 calipers and still have nearly a full can. directions specify cure time of 24 hours before handling/mounting.

want a pic ?

I did this today in about 3-4 Hours...

I Wipped them down with a dirty rag...yes...just a rag, then gave it two coats of Pepboys 500* Heat FORD RED Engine Paint...of coarse...it didnt want to stick...and made those darn spots when you have like oil on something you want to paint...but that was okay, then I applied a third coat and with my fingers smeared the paint to cover the spots where the paint didnt take...I sprayed paint into a cap, and then applied it to the caliper, let it dry, then gave another coat to the caliper...I did the smearing and coating, till I was satisfied with the end result..then I used a clearcoat that is the same pepboys paint for an engine..the End RESULTS:

Nick, you should have painted your rotors too, that would have been SICK!!! :****:

:D

SHO_Freak, if you want them to be shiny just make sure that you clean them up really good and maybe even sand them down... otherwise, if it's a rough surface then it won't be as shiny as you want.

I have not exposed the painted calipers to brake fluid yet. I just taped off the rubber boots and any lines and anything else that I thought might get messed up with the paint. I quess you could use a drill, the brush was readilly available. I think I used the 550 degree paint. ShoNick's look alot better than mine, but i'm still running slicers.

im gonna test the engine paint here soon to see if its resistant to brake fluid, but i saw that the super high heat stuff is resistant to most automotive chemicals (1200 degree stuff). i may be getting some of that if the engine enamel doesnt work out.

still my big question, black or red.......

I used the Duplicolor brush on stuff. It's holding up great.

I left my caliper bracket alone, it would have been too much if I painted those too.

its alright to bake the calipers and brackets right? all i have to do is take those slinky like rubber things off and i should be fine, right?

I've got some brand new G2 brake caliper paint that I won't be using now that I am going with Wilwood 4 piston calipers. The color is red. If prepped right, this stuff lasts a long time and is actually red, not orange.

Its all in the Prep..I didnt prep my brakes at all..except wiping them down, but once again, I went & smeared paint over where the paint didnt want to stick, let it dry, and then painted over it all to give it that flush look....also, its holding up well..im happy...from like 1/2 block away..its looks badass IMO. :thumb:
