i noticed twice today that my brakes werent working like they should be. both times were comin down hills and the pedal would get really really stiff and i would have to push so hard to get it to stop. almost like i have to when the car is shut off to keep it from rolling. do i need to change my fluid or is there a bigger problem. it might be simple but i am pretty ignorant when it comes to brake problems.

Sounds like either the vacuum line to the booster has a problem (which may be very easy to fix) or your master cylinder may have a problem.

The brake booster is the black circular thing that the master cylinder (which is the thing with the brake fluid reservior on it) is mounted to. There's a vacuum line going to it. Check to make sure that that line is still connected and not cracked, split, or damaged otherwise. If the vacuum line is alright, then in all likelyhood, your brake booster may be at fault, and require replacement.
