1st get some liquid graphite, remove the speedo cable assem, disassemble, **** cable/sheeth, reassemble and refit. If this does not work you may need a new cable assem. and/or speedo head.

The inner core that does the actual rotating is just a bunch of wires that have been tightly twisted together into a small cable. The ends are smashed into a square shape by a special press so that it doesn't slip inside the speedo housing. A lot of times, one of the little wire will wear to the point where it breaks and moves away from the bundle. It then catches on the sheath on every revolution. The cure is a new cable.

Another problem is that the lubricant drys out and at the bends in the sheath the core will stick, unstick, stick, unstick.... and so on. The cure for this is a good liquid graphite lubricant.

Good luck.
